The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Louisiana Department of
Natural Resources (LDNR) are once again inviting the public to participate
in the Coast 2050 Barataria Basin Feasibility Study. Since February
of 2000, the USACE and LDNR have been collecting data and soliciting input
concerning the best methods of implementing selected large-scale strategies
proposed in the Coast 2050 Plan. These strategies include dedicated dredging
for marsh creation along LA Highway 1, marsh creation in Caminada Bay,
and barrier shoreline restoration from Belle Pass to Sandy Point.
It is now time to incorporate all the collected data and comments into
an array of alternative project plans for formal feasibility analysis.
The USACE and LDNR have scheduled two public meetings for the nights of
March 27th and 28th for the purpose of presenting an array of draft alternative
plans for public review and comment. Meeting materials, including
project maps, are posted on the Internet at the study's web site (www.coast2050.gov)
so that all attendees can prepare their comments in advance.
For more information, contact Howie Gonzales at the USACE (504-862-1672)
or Jon Porthouse at the LDNR (225-342-9421) or e-mail the study team directly
at coast2050info@dnr.state.la.us.
